So much awesome…
…so little time.
…so little time.
Just in time for Autumn, more dreamy moody chilly psychedelia from Caribou (a/k/a Manitoba.) I’ve been a big fan of this guy for a while now, and I can’t recommend his last album, The Milk of Human Kindness, enough. Plus today I found out he went to college with my friend Ant!
I can’t believe I’ve never heard this stuff before, “No Wave” music from 80’s NYC. It’s right up my alley– dancy, infectious, and totally inane. Think Talking Heads has sex with Donna Summer. I’m a Disco Clone, now nobody has to go home alone! Vol III is the best, but check out the other two if this grabs you.
If you miss the sample-laden, Serge Gainsbourg-worshipping, miniskirt-ripping-off Stereo Total of the late 90’s, this will suit you just fine. If you don’t know Stereo Total, well get with the effing program here people.
The Russian Futurists - Our Thickness Low-fi bedroom rock. Kinda reminds me of Zero Zero. Catchy, but a little repetitive at times. link
Datarock - Datarock Datarock Awesome! Totally high-energy from start to finish. Nice mix of styles and genres. From Norway! Cute accents. Sexy, too. link
Peter Bjorn and John - Falling Out My friend Randy put me onto this. Good Summer tunes. Haven’t listened to it enough yet to say more. I think this is not their most recent album; that’s not available on eMusic yet (it’s on iTunes, though.) From Sweden. link

Infectious juicy electropop with a retro sound. Great samples, too. “Come along now, children, you can shake your booties down on the docks!”
An oldie, but a goodie.
I just found these guys on emusic a few months ago, and can’t get enough of them now.
Check out this very rare video clip of the VU performing on The Lawrence Welk Show.
